Jakarta Task Force Distributes Aid to Isolated Village in West Pasaman

The Jakarta Humanitarian Collaborative Task Force distributed logistical assistance to residents affected by an earthquake in Timbo Abu Village, Talamau Sub-district, West Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra.

The terrain is very difficult because the area is quite isolated

Timbo Abu Village, which is located at the foot of Mount Talamau has turned into an isolated village because the access road to the village was cut off due to landslides following the 6.1 magnitude earthquake on February 25, 2022.

The Jakarta Humanitarian Collaborative Task Force in collaboration with West Sumatra Indonesia Off-road Federation (IOF) distributed logistics to refugee camps in the village.

Jakarta Humanitarian Collaborative Task Force Hands Over Logistics Assistance for West Pasaman

The Jakarta Humanitarian Collaborative Task Force Chief Executive, Isnawa Adji said, due to muddy road access, he went to distribute the aid together with the nature explorer community using off-road cars for approximately five kilometers to get to the village.

"The terrain is very difficult because the area is quite isolated. We finally asked the team from West Sumatra IOF. There are Resort Police Operation Head and West Pasaman officials," he conveyed, Saturday (3/5).

There were at least 7 off-road cars belonging to West Sumatra IOF and 3 trail bikes belonging to local police deployed to send assistance in the form of rice and other logistics to residents in Timbo Abu Village.

The Task Force and West Sumatra IOF decided to return to the post located at West Pasaman Regent's Office because it was raining heavily and the mud was thick. Aid distribution would be resumed by the team from West Pasaman Government.

He assessed that Timbo Abu Village was the center of the 6.1 magnitude earthquake that hit West Pasaman in February 2022. Not only causing a landslide but many residential buildings were also collapsed due to earthquakes.

"West Pasaman BPBD will arrange for the next distribution. Because administratively, we have submitted assistance to West Pasaman Regency," he stated.

Usmawita (50), a resident of Talamau expressed her gratitude for the assistance provided by the Task Force.

She admitted that the food stock in her house was starting to run low due to the difficulty of access to her residence.

Luckily, the Task Force was able to reach the refugee camps thus the assistance could be distributed directly to her family and others.

"My house collapsed, because of the earthquake. I have to sleep in a tent. Thank you to the Jakarta government and its residents who have helped us," she said.
